PCANZ presents a series of exciting woodcut workshops with Australian printmaker Gary Shinfield
Landscape as portrait using the woodcut medium
Can you imagine yourself as mountain, sea, valley or river, or perhaps some other element of the physical world? Aspects of the environment around us can provide metaphors revealing who we are, and what we are experiencing as we move through various stages of life. When translated into images, they can become self-portraits in the broadest sense, and signposts mapping our journey.
The woodcut medium will be used to explore the relationship between landscape and portrait. Small blocks of easy to carve wood will be supplied and various techniques will be introduced to provide different ways to realise ideas.
During the workshop the following techniques will be introduced:- the use of water based printing inks; multiple plate printing for layered images; various papers for printing including Asian papers; and brush painting techniques for research.
$150.00 plus materials, limited to 10 places
