Gisborne Report June - August 2025
Jean Johnstone
Gisborne printmakers have grown in membership after organising three workshops in March and April. This has resulted in discussions about extending our inking space and reviewing arrangements offering more access for printmakers to use our studios in Lysnar House.
Over the next few months, we plan to introduce our newer members to more printmaking processes. The Gisborne Artists’ Society (GAS) manage Lysnar House and at their AGM held on 13 May, six printmakers were voted into the GAS Committee. They bring a range of new networks, IT knowledge and promotional design skills into the Society. One of their tasks is to arrange the design of a website which is able, like the PCANZ one, to profile the art of our local artists.
We are on the look out for a new large etching press thanks to a legacy made in memory of the late Penny Ormerod, a member of the first Print Council who shared her skills and passion for printmaking with Gisborne artists in 1976. If you can offer any help or advice in locating a press, we would appreciate hearing from you.
