Marlborough/Nelson Report september - November 2025
Liz Downey and Emily Lake
At our monthly get togethers Liz Downey and Emily Lake have provided inspiration with demos using tetrapaks and gelli plates to enthusiastic numbers for regular and new printmakers. We have shared our creative journals filled with concepts, doodles, very beautiful drawings, and ideas for printmaking.
This month the group farewelled Jeff Lockhart off in search of waves to catch in Hahei. It was hard to lose Jeff, always a gentle inspiration and the glue that kept us together. His role is now thankfully shared by several members, with Liz Downey stepping up to the substantial administrative role.
Thanks to the initiative of Vicki Smith, printmakers from the Te Tauihi branch of PCANZ have the opportunity to participate in the 'Festival of Architecture' with NZIA, 12-22 September. View Ports is an exhibition and workshop/playspace takeover of an empty urban space at 18 Bridge Street in Whakatu/Nelson involving local artists, designers, architects and printmakers. A playful, creative space, experimenting with rapid techniques for capturing and reproducing images and story, it aims to (re)frame collective views on how we intersect with our built environment and our future realities.
