Workshop Overview
An artist-led workshop exploring approaches to strengthening your art and expanding your professional practice toolkit within a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment. Through discussion, practical activities, peer exchange, and reflective exercises, participants will develop ideas, critical insights, confidence, and strategies for positioning and sharing their practice.
Part 1: Unpack. Develop. Elevate.
Makers will examine what sparks and influences their making and explore how their ideas and practice relate to various contexts. They will strengthen existing critical practices, including critique, through robust methodologies to support creative development.
Participants will explore how research, idea development, and evaluations work together in an ongoing, interconnected, and dynamic process - each feeding and sharpening the other as practice grows.
Part 2: Voice. Register. Share.
Working within practical frameworks and building on Part 1 outcomes, participants will explore approaches to sharing their proposed body of work and maximising its reach. They will develop or hone a confident artistic voice and public presence, considering how this can be articulated and positioned within our contemporary art landscape.
Topics covered include proposal development, exhibition making, funding, career positioning, industry navigation, and online presence, with an emphasis on how these elements interconnect to support a coherent and sustainable professional practice.
Deborah Crowe - Profile
Deborah Crowe is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist and creative producer. She makes immersive digital prints that have been selected in numerous NZPPA exhibitions, shown in The Expanded Field of Print, and published in Proof: Two Decades of Printing (PCANZ book, published 2022). Her work is held in major collections.
A full-time creative producer, she also runs Crowe Creative, providing mentoring, professional development, and workshops for artists. With over 28 years in tertiary teaching and postgraduate supervision, she is known for accelerating artists’ conceptual and critical thinking through a professional, supportive, and fun approach.
