Re/Arrange is a playful two-day printmaking workshop where abstract forms, texture, and textile thinking come together in modular prints designed to be cut, layered, and endlessly recombined.

The final works will be flexible, puzzle-like pieces, prints that can shift, connect, and transform, much like a quilt made of paper. This is a workshop about process over perfection, embracing intuition, and finding joy in the unexpected combinations that emerge when we let go of the plan and piece it together as we go.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Learn textile-inspired printmaking techniques using gel plates, including layering, masking, and texture-building.

  • Explore the creative potential of working with a limited colour palette to emphasise contrast, mood, and cohesion.

  • Create a modular series of abstract prints that can be rearranged to form multiple compositions.

  • Develop an intuitive approach to composition through play, repetition, and visual rhythm, drawing inspiration from quilting aesthetics.

  • Gain confidence in cutting, layering, and recombining printed fragments to generate unexpected and expressive outcomes.

Leave with a flexible “paper quilt”—a collection of prints that function as both individual pieces and a cohesive body of work.

Tara Axford

Tara Axford is a Sydney-based mixed media artist with a background in graphic design and publishing. Her practice centres on design, composition, and printmaking, drawing inspiration from her surroundings and the natural world. With a strong sense of visual structure, she transforms found materials, such as discarded fragments, weathered surfaces, and overlooked textures into layered works that explore contrast and balance.

Tara’s work often begins with photography and observation, zooming in on details from the landscape that are easily missed. These fragments become the basis for abstract compositions created through printing, collage, and surface manipulation. Using techniques such as gel plate printing  and hand-cut layering, she investigates the relationship between chaos and order, the man-made and the organic.

Her compositions echo the rhythms of textile traditions, using repetition, modular design, and limited palettes to create forms that can be rearranged or built upon. Whether working in two or three dimensions, Tara explores how shape, texture, and placement can convey memory and meaning.

Her process invites a slower way of looking, encouraging the viewer to pause and reimagine familiar materials through a lens of thoughtful design and tactile engagement.
