Workshop Description:
Exploring Print: A Two-Day Experimental Workshop
Dive into the rich and tactile world of relief printmaking in this two-day hands-on workshop. You'll explore a variety of techniques, including multiplate woodblock printing, found object printing, and stamp-making to create layered, textural images with depth and narrative.
Day One focuses on design development, carving woodblocks, and experimenting with layering using multiple plates. You'll explore how colour, shape, and registration can interact across a composition.
Day Two will extend the exploration into the use of found material and stamp printing.
Suitable for all levels.
Jeff Lockhart
Jeff Lockhart is a Pākehā artist and educator whose work is deeply inspired by Pasifika styles and traditions. With close personal and professional connections to the Pacific, particularly Samoa, his distinctive style has evolved over many years. Jeff’s Pasifika Art journey began during his time as an art teacher at Wesley College in South Auckland, where he had a chance to work closely with Fatu Feu’u. It was Fatu who encouraged Jeff to embrace and develop his Pasifika style, a defining element of his creative practice.
Jeff works across multiple mediums, including printmaking, painting, and sculpture. His art often delves into themes of identity, exploring not only his own sense of self but also broader connections to the Pacific region. By incorporating symbols, vibrant colours, intricate patterns, and evocative imagery, Jeff highlights the interconnectedness of the Pacific and our place in it.
