Gisborne Report Sept. - Nov. 2026

Torri Stewart

It’s been a busy few months for Gisborne Printmakers as we’ve prepared for and enjoyed the success of our 50th Anniversary exhibition at Tairāwhiti Museum. We were privileged to show our works alongside those of Carole Shepheard and Lynn Taylor. The exhibition will culminate with shared artists’ talks on Saturday 29 August.

Our Gisborne Printmakers group has grown significantly over the past 3 years and now numbers 26. We have workshops planned for the spring months ahead, including Cyanotype with Ninja Helmling at Makorori Beach in September, and printmaking at Rangiwaho Marae in October. Many of our members are also busy preparing for exhibitions and local Art events like the She Shed Tour on November 15 - offering an opportunity to share our prints alongside local artists at their studios.

Alongside the 50th Anniversary of Gisborne Printmakers, we also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our studio space - Lysnar House - this year. We’ve got a special Gold themed exhibition and weekend of activity planned with Gisborne Artists’ Society, Potters and Photographers in early October.

Our printmakers are still enjoying our new huge Gunning printing press. Sarah Gibson has had particular success using it, as you can see from her beautiful collagraph print, titled “Kina / Evechinus chloroticus”
