Gisborne Report september- november 2025

Jean Johnstone

To accommodate participants in a range of exhibitions, both in Gisborne and in PCANZ events, the Gisborne Printmakers arranged extra printing days over the last three months. We are looking forward to hosting the travelling Small Print Exhibition in September. In our remote area, these PCANZ arranged events give us a huge boost. We are particularly enjoying the TEN-by-TEN-by-TEN challenge. A huge shout-out to PCANZ members who volunteer their time and effort to initiate and organise these events.

We have also appreciated some guidance from a range of printmakers about the purchase of a large etching press, and I am happy to say that a new large Gunning Press from Ironbridge UK is currently being constructed for us.

The impact several Gisborne Printmakers are making in the Gisborne Artists’ Society (GAS) is substantial. After obtaining a Lotto Grant, a new website is now operational and is showcasing some of our prints. The address is:  gisborneartists.co.nz

To support further promotional skills for members, four workshops called ‘From Palette to Platform Social Media’ will begin in September. These two images of prints are displayed in the current selected GAS exhibition on show in Tairāwhiti Art Gallery and Museum.
