Taupo Report September- november 2025

Sally-Ann Davies and Maggie Dawson

Maggie Dawson and Sally-Ann Davies kicked things off by hosting a "Give it a go" workshop and artist talk for their "Contours and Whispers" exhibition at ArtsPost in Hamilton.

Sally-Ann has been busy planning workshops in Tauranga and Rotorua, while her Taupō Printmaking Retreat has expanded into a three-day event. Maggie is currently leading her Parallel Printmaking Workshop online.

We are sad to say goodbye to our friend and fellow printmaker, Mayumi, who has moved to Whanganui. We're already looking forward to visiting her exhibitions there—it's only a quick jump over the mountain!

It hasn't been all smooth sailing; Maggie had a pre-class panic when her printing press broke. Fortunately, her impressive problem-solving skills saved the day, though it did get us all wondering: Who do you call for a printing press emergency these days?

We've also been busy expanding our minds with several educational events, including a talk on writing proposals at Hastings City Gallery, Steve Lovett’s discussions (it's great they're on Zoom now), and Dr. Mike Dickison's webinar, "Artists’ Online Presence." We're grateful for all these opportunities and highly recommend grabbing them when they pop up.
