Kapiti Coast Report December - February 2026

Hamish Macauley

Some of our members were involved with Nicki Frances 10x10 print project, and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and experience. Thank you for the opportunity Nicki.

Hamish in his new home gallery for KCAT 2025

A number of our printmakers were also part of this year's Kāpiti Coast Art Trail, held over the first two weekends of November. Feedback reported visitor numbers and spend to be down on previous years, but interest to be high. A deflated economy and financial insecurity no doubt contribute to this, but wonderful that art was still finding new homes nonetheless.

Rosemary Mortimer, Playhouse (detail), Intaglio from found object.

Two of our printmakers are in Arotake Toi | Mahara Arts Review showcase currently. Rosemary Mortimer has 'PlayHouse' in the exhibition. It is a huge interlaced section of 'bird's nests', that actually turned out to be rat's nests! The medium is 'Intaglio from found object'.

Hamish Macaulay has one of his large gel plate monotypes in the show. The exhibition showcases the work of emerging and established artists from Kāpiti and Horowhenua, and runs until 31 January.

Coastal Creatives Gallery & Gift Shop at Coastlands

A new co-operative of local artists has opened a new gallery in Coastlands Shopping town on the Kāpiti coast. Coastal Creatives Gallery & Gift Shop is a pop-up venture from 10 local artists. Two months on and the gallery has been a tremendous success, breathing new life and interest into Coastlands. The gallery boasts a massive variety of work from its 10 members which includes printmaking, photography, painting, illustration, ceramics, sculpture and jewellery. Two guest artists are also featured on top of the lineup, changing over every fortnight. Link here: https://www.instagram.com/coastal_creatives_art/

Eames Fine Art's stand at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair

Hamish has recently been exhibiting in London with Eames Fine Art at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. The leading international art fair for original contemporary print presents a unique alternative model that is revolutionising the traditional art market, disrupting the elitist nature of art fairs, and pushing the boundaries of print. He was delighted with the result, coming off the back of another successful solo showcase with Eames in August.
