Wairarapa Report December - February 2026

Jo Lysaght and Nick Branden

There was a great turn-out from Wellington region printmakers for the annual works on paper tour at Te Papa organised by Jo Lysaght. Lizzie Bisley - curator of modern art, took us through a wonderful timeline of print from Albrecht Dürer, linocuts from The Grosvenor School of Modern Art, through to work by New Zealand print artist, Marilynn Webb. Lizzie talked about each artist’s work, and the reason why it was significant, and it was such a privilege to see these beautiful works up close. This will be an annual event happening around late August each year.

Nick Brandon continues to offer print classes at the Masterton Art Club on the first Saturday of the month. These are for people with some experience of print making with students deciding which methods to investigate. This is fun and challenging at the same time!

A group of Lower North Island PCANZ members had a wonderful trip to Whanganui on 6 & 7th September to coincide with Julia Ellery’s retrospective exhibition. The trip included a guided tour of the recently reopened Serjeant Gallery (courtesy of Vanessa Edwards) a paper making demo at Marty Vreedes, and a trip to Graham Hall’s studio, where he showed us his unique relief print making technique. All round a very inspiring couple of days and many thanks to chief organiser, Julie Moonlight.
