Expressive printmaking with collagraph and carborundum– Celia Walker
A 2-day workshop demonstrating collagraph print techniques with carborundum
Participants will be shown how to create textured collagraph plates, with the addition of carborundum for expressive image-making. Over the course of the two-day workshop we will build up a range of cardboard collagraph plates using found materials to create the print surface. Participants will also be shown ways of applying carborundum powder to create the plates for expressive painterly effects, and different ways of inking and printing to create unique layered prints.
Celia Walker - Profile
Celia Walker is a printmaker based in Tāmaki Makaurau, whose work reflects her interests in ecology and human-altered landscapes. She uses non-toxic processes such as collagraph and monotype to create unique-state prints that are often quite large scale. She has coordinated several collaborative print installations around environmental themes that explore ways paper can be manipulated, shaped and transformed. Celia has been a finalist in several major national awards, including the New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Awards, the Parkin Drawing Prize, and the Estuary Art and Ecology Awards.
