A weekend workshop with Celia Walker from Auckland on the 15th and 16th August was attended by 10 lucky members of the Wellington PCANZ cohort.
Jude Gordon writes: Celia demonstrated a number of methods and materials used to create collagraphs. Fabrics, tape, papers, and carborundum presented a challenge for the class who quickly learnt what sticks and what comes undone. The amount of work generated was huge. Layering of four plates each with a different media ensured spontaneous results and wild experimentation. It was a great success where we were encouraged to move outside of our comfort zone. Most of all it was great fun.
Takapu Road Project update from Paula Warren
A project by Wellington printers is underway that will culminate in an exhibition late 2027. The aim is to create works focused on a restoration project at the top of Takapu Road, near Tawa, exploring together how we make decisions on what to express and how to translate those concepts into print. The Takapu Road area was chosen for its wide variety of subjects; a Transpower substation, pylons, the main water pipeline for Wellington, old farm fences, a stream, and existing and new vegetation. So far local printmakers have met twice in the area and viewed the gallery at Pataka, and had many conversations about next steps.
