Summer School 2024

8 to 12 January 2024 (Wednesday lay day)

Queen Margaret College, 53 Hobson Street, Thorndon, Wellington

Organisers: Di Smallfield, Marci Tackett, Kathy Boyle

An exciting, immersive week of printmaking and connecting with printmakers from around the country.

Wellington turned on some amazing weather and Queen Margaret College made us feel extremely welcome with wonderful facilities, food and support.

All the workshops were well subscribed and very energising and informative. Apart from the odd hiccup with covid, Summer School 2024 was a resounding success. Thank you to the wonderful tutors, participants and organisers.

There were 7 workshop options to choose from: a 4-day course and 6 x 2-day courses plus an open studio option - with accommodation and meals all on site at Queen Margaret College Hostel.

4-day course:

1. Lynn Taylor: Navigating Your Artistic Landscape - Mentorship Class

2-day workshops:

2. Numa MacKenzie: Moana Block - Moana Prints

3. Marci Tackett: The Versatile Silkscreen

4. Anna Layzell: Monoprinting with oil and cold wax medium

5. Vanessa Edwards: "A" Maori approach to printmaking

6. Jude Gordon: Silk Mezzotint

7. Terrie Reddish: Wearable paper art jewellery

Open Studio option

Summer School always provides the opportunity to revitalise our practice, and strengthen our printmaking ties. It was exciting to welcome so many new faces from all over NZ to the hosting region, Auckland. The importance of having the summer school in different regions around the motu is evident from the rich connections and associations that happen over the week.
